The student will be responsible for spelling the word, knowing its definition, and filling in a sentence with the word.
We have reviewed the process in class, the test will be Friday, May 14th.

The good news is the students did well on their spelling tests without it. Mrs. Randolph enjoyed being with the class, she had very complimentary things to say. I knew they were great kids, but it is always nice to hear it from someone else.

SERVICE PROJECT INFORMATION

Christmas Service Project
2009

As a service project for 2nd and 3rd grades we have chosen to buy hats, gloves, and scarves for a class in north Tulsa. We have been contacted by a teacher whose children come to school in cold weather without proper outerwear. Another church group is purchasing coats for each child. We are supporting that purchase with hats, gloves and scarves.
The classroom is in an alternative school, so most of the students range is grades 1-6 and are mostly boys. Each class will bring a different item for the collection.
Ms. Hinderman’s class will bring scarves.
Mrs. Spears’ class will bring gloves.
And Mrs. Clark’s class will bring hats.
These are low cost items that make a huge impact on the life of a child.
We would recommend that you and your child sit down and formulate a plan for how the child can earn money to pay for needed items. After your child has earned the money take him or her with you to purchase the item. As we all know, the more a child participates in charitable acts, the more likely he or she will do so as an adult.
Thank you for your family’s support of the service project. The due date is December 16th.

JOG A THON AWARDS

This morning the children were presented with Jog-a-Thon awards. Special congratutaltions to Zachary and Amanda (1st place) and Julia and Cole (2nd place). Our top fundraisers were: Emma, Olivia, and Amanda. Very impressive.
We also have a new fund raiser begining today, watch for an envelop containing all the information.

I hope you had a restful holiday weekend. We are back in full swing. The story for this week is "Alexander" the spelling words contain the endings -est, -ing, -er or -ed. The words are; using, getting, easiest, swimming, heavier, greatest, pleased, emptied, leaving, worried, strangest, freezing, funniest, angrier, shopped, included, occurred, supplying, scarier, and happiest.
The comprehension tests are remarkable harder than second grade. You may want to review key concepts with your child prior to a test.

I hope you are having a great week. I have fighting allergies this week and not on my game. Sorry it has take so long to post the spelling words.
The story for this week is titled "What about Me?" All of the words are plural ending either -s or -es. The words are: pennies, inches, plants, families, bodies, glasses, wishes, pockets, lists, copies, parties, bunches, crashes, supplies, pencils, accidents, libraries, mysteries, carpenters, and merchants.

BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK

Remember, Back to School Night is Wednesday at 6:30. This is an event for parents, please do not bring students. Thank you.
Each week I will post spelling words from the story in reading. This week's story is Boom Town. The words contain short vowels, with the VCCV pattern. (Vowel Consonant Consonant Vowel)
The words are: happen, lettuce, basket, winter, sister, monster, supper, subject, lesson,spelling, napkin, collar, traffic, suggest, puppet, skillet, picnic, planet, system, and pumpkin. The test will be on Friday.
I hope your third grader had a good first week. If there is anything I can do help them feel more comfortable at school, please do not hesitate to contact me. I want third grade to be a GREAT year for all of us.

We made it through the first day! I hope everyone had a good day. The majority of the day was spent getting to know each other. We made it outside for one picture. As you can tell the sun was in their eyes.

Hello friends!
I hope you had a great summer. It is great to be teaching third grade. I will blog at least weekly to help everyone stay informed. I hope that you are as excited as I am to begin a new year.
